New Food Coverage in Print

montecristo

This past summer, knowing how much I like to know about food happenings around town, a client dropped a copy of Montecristo Magazine off for me. The cover article was about the beginning of Vancouver’s culinary community; Bud Kanke, Michel Jacob, John Bishop and Umberto Menghe. It was a great eye-opener on the history of Vancouver dining, but also a look at a new Vancouver magazine. It’s not food-specific, but the current issue (it comes out quarterly), has a piece by Jay Jones of Pourhouse expounding on the virtues of daytime drinking with a recipe for a Maker’s julep – yum! There’s also a piece on a culinary tour of Chinatown and a round-up of local brie.  Written as an introduction to what Chinatown has to offer in terms of restaurants and foodshops, it’s not entirely news to the food-obsessed, but they’re cutting their teeth of their first couple of issues so I’m curious to see what kind of content they churn out next. And of course I’m always in favour of cocktails in the morning.
