Looking for a really amazing cream puff? Beard Papas, recently opened up here in Vancouver and I’ll admit there have been a few late night trips to their Denman Street location since then. If you order a box to go,the fresh baked cream puffs are filled right in front of you.  The two most common fillings are the vanilla bean and the Bavarian dark chocolate whipped cream custard.  I heard they do a matcha cream puff, but it isn’t always on the menu. Being a big matcha fan, I would love to hear if anyone has tried this.

The first Beard Papas in Metro Vancouver is in Aberdeen Centre in Richmond. They have the matcha version there. There’s also one now at City Square, although I’ve not tried it yet.

Living in Richmond does have its perks. I have gone to Aberdeen and tried all the flavours. The chocolate dipped with custard filling is my favourite. I believe they have certain flavour fillings featured each week. Matcha one week, strawberry the next, etc. They do have the regular creme filled ones everyday but I definitely recommend going early since they always sell out by the end of the day.

And the one perk of living in Vancouver is that there aren’t all those crazy Chinese people who buy out the supply at the local Beard Papa’s. ;)

Yes, I’ve tried the matcha one and although it’s nice and delicate, I still prefer the custard filled one. (I like my Matcha in hot tea form.) My mom used to make homemade cream puffs when I was young with whipped cream filling (sometimes with fresh sliced strawberries). That is the version I match everything else to. Beard Papas is pretty high up there, although it’s missing the main ingredient from my mom’s version…TLC. (Aww, awww..snif snif!)

I just tried one of these on the weekend. I wasn’t a fan, but sweets aren’t really my thing, so not surprising.
