Noghl – A Persian Wedding Tradition

Near the conclusion of the wonderful wedding I was best man at in Mexico recently, the parents of the bride gave Andrea and I a lovely gift. Inside we discovered an adorable mini Persian rug, a purse-sized woman’s mirror, gold coins, and a small satchel of what looked large, lumpy grains of white rice.
Turns out they were Noghl, or sugar-coated almonds, a traditional Persian party favour common at Iranian weddings, which is where they are originally from. Made by coating roasted almonds in a mixture of boiled sugar, water, and rose water, they are delicious.
I’ve no idea where one can get traditional Persian treats like Noghl in Vancouver, does anyone have any suggestions?

I’ve seen these at Persia Foods on 13th in North Vancouver…I’ve always wondered what they were and now that I know, (thank you!), I’ll try some!

Hi,
I love those things if you can get them fresh. They don’t tast as good when they are old. Iranian people ate them with their tea drinks traditionally and they still do. You can find them at any Iranian/persian Grocery store and most all of them are located on Lonsdale in North Vancouver. I have been researching for persian wedding services and that is how I saw your add. Hope you have found and tried them by now.
Take care,
