Ping’s Japanese Home Cooking

I was really excited to discover Ping’s Cafe – a new Yoshoku style Japanese restaurant that served all of the Japanese home cooking I grew up on. They have ebi furai, tonkatsu, kimpira gobo, croquettes and a lot of deep fried yummy goodness. The food was tasty, not super greasy and done right. The hambagoo was super moist and delicious. And the interiors are super chic! I would definitely go back.
Ping’s Cafe is located 2702 Main Street. Vancouver, BC in Mount Pleasant; (604) 873-2702, www.pingscafe.ca

Ping’s is great. The big canvas on the way to the bathrooms is a Rodney Graham. And check out the Ron Terada neon by the window!

I have eaten at Ping’s several times now. It is consistently good. Probably one of the best values in Vancouver.

We tried this place in December, and enjoyed the food. We didn’t order and just left it up to the chef and everything was great. But what really left an impression on me was the room – it is just gorgeous. Simple, clean and beautiful.

We finally went and it was fantastic. Home cooking was spot on and the hot dipping sauce for the croquettes was addictive. You’d never know how modern it was inside from the street but still felt cozy and relaxed. Our 4 year old really enjoys Japanese and homecooked meals so this definitely hit his sweet spot. We’ll be back for more!
